Happy Holidays - Day 1

To my Jewish sisters and brothers, I will hold you in my thoughts as I light my own Menorah tonight and for the following 7 nights. Shalom.

Transliteration
Hanerot halalu anachnu madlikin
Al hanissim ve'al haniflaot
Al hatshu-ot ve'al hamilchamot
She-asita la'avoteynu
Bayamim hahem, bazman hazeh
Al yedey kohanecha hakdoshim.

Vechol shmonat yemey Chanukah
Hanerot halalu kodesh hem,
Ve-ein lanu reshut lehishtamesh bahem
Ela lirotam bilvad
Kedai lehodot leshimcha
Al nissecha veal nifleotecha ve-al yeshuotecha.

Translation
We light these lights
For the miracles and the wonders,
For the redemption and the battles
That you made for our forefathers
In those days at this season,
Through your holy priests.

During all eight days of Chanukah
These lights are sacred
And we are not permitted to make
Ordinary use of them,
But only to look at them;
In order to express thanks
And praise to Your great Name
For your miracles, Your wonders
And your salvations.

"To you the earth yields her fruit, and you shall not want if you but know how to fill your hands. It is in exchanging the gifts of the earth that you shall find abundance and be satisfied. Yet unless the exchange be in love and kindly justice, it will but lead some to greed and others to hunger......And before you leave the market place, see that no one has gone his way with empty hands. For the master spirit of the earth shall not sleep peacefully upon the wind till the needs of the least of you are satisfied." - "The Prophet," Kahlil Gibran, 1923

As I mentioned my man this is a great quote and one that should be revisited at least monthly for inspiration.

Judging from your comments life is an ever changing mixture of laughter, wit, and the never ending compassion for making the other person feel better about themselves.

Keep inspiring Greg for this is your calling.

Happy Holidays!

Hey you! Just checking in. Thought of you on my drives past Richmond (both times) to see the Terps at ODU. A much better drive home than Pitts (which claims to be 'the city of God' go figure!)

Was not home in time to light candles tonight, but thanks for the nice post. I like participating in both holidays--is fun trying to explain to my fellow Methodists.

Hope you are feeling well and staying warm--go Greg! Beat the Alien! (still in cheering mode, I guess.)
